SSL certificates are fundamental to internet security. They are used to establish an encrypted connection and allow the secure transmission of data between a user's browser or computer and a server or website.
SSL uses cryptography to protect data during transfer. This protocol uses symmetric and asymmetric cryptography to achieve two main goals:
- Establishes a secure connection between browser and server
- Encrypts communication to protect sensitive information your customers provide to you
- Puts a padlock next to your web address in the browser
- Authenticates the identity of the organisation
